That was the truth when I heard that we were going to have Reverse Gender Day on Wednesday. The three other themes, Nerd Day, CIMP Day and Pajamas Day were done last semester so I could practically wear the same outfit. But Reverse Gender Day? Really? Damn.
Monday came. I wore my high button shirt with tight pants. It was probably the easiest day to do because of my introvert nature. But of course it did not involve much creativity on my part, because arguably I look like a nerd. I found the big glasses frame funny but too stereotypical for my liking.
After classes, I went for CIMP Choir rehearsals. There were more people this time! All the second semester members were ecstatic and overjoyed with the arrival of boys. For some reason, CIMP Choir did not have a particular appeal for boys. It's great that it has all changed this semester! :) As the pianist, I had mistaken the tempo. So the wrath of Ms. Chia came upon me, but thankfully she gave me another 10 days to prepare. It was a relaxed rehearsal and everyone went home at around 5.30pm.
Tuesday came. My posters were already stuck around the campus thanks to friends and wearing my Chinese New Year shirt made me feel belonged to CIMP. During lunch, I managed to get one of my friends to lend me a wig for tomorrow. Hopefully it is not too difficult to handle! As I went home, I discovered that many posters of mine (and other candidates) were gone and I was deeply troubled by it. I told Ms. Dale and she told me she would look into it.
Wednesday came. Wearing a white v- shirt ,my yellow skinny shirt from 2010, and slim jeans with loafers, I came to Sunway College. It was sort of embarassing at first and I could mentally feel my self- esteem drop but as I approached the CIMP Table, all doubts and worries were gone. I got my wig and had it worn well (with hairclips and hair bands) and off I went to class. The reaction of others were priceless and some even thought that I was a tranny. Oh well, at least geeky AUSMATians will finally see CIMPians as equally wild people :D
During the photo taking session, I got to know many CIMPians who dressed up. Shawn's outfit was really well done and I sort of knew who he was by checking out Facebook before arriving at college (Facebook is scary eh?) and the girls really caught the idealistic men wear by wearing white shirts with ties. Some CIMPians were really cute though, using this day as a day to cosplay.
As I moved about, my confidence level sort of grew. Some Asian students were really respectful by keeping their laughters until I was behind them (and by not pointing) while others just stared at me in disgust. Having lunch at Orange, I made the heads of many smokers turn and even though it was scary at first, they treated me indifferently. Thank God! Eating fried rice with long hair is rather difficult though. I should've brought more hair clips.
By Period 6, I couldn't take it any more and had everything 'reverse gender'-ed removed. Kudos to those brave 'boys' who walked from College to Pyramid in their outfits though. I certainly throw my hats off for them. Bowling was fun, meeting cool people and strengthening the bonds within CIMP. One of the most memorable events was having Mr Dave steal one of the 'babies' of my friend. It was so comical and Mr Dave just kept a straight face throughout the entire ordeal. Fortunately my friend retrieved her baby back unharmed, else Mr Cahill would be sure to use his mighty powers to reign havoc in class.
Thursday came. Wearing a fresh set of Pajamas, I walked in hotel slippers all around the slippery college floors. I perceived how often the cleaners mopped the floor and kept everything so neat and tidy. It was almost a little too scary for my liking. Regardless, I walked everywhere in my PJs, even to the first Model United Nations (MUN) club meet at SIS. The guards guarding the entrance gave me weird glances, but being the last day of school before a long weekend, they let me through without hassle. At the club, Mr Kondro told us our assigned countries for the Singapore Conference. I was chosen to be the Delegate from Russia in the ECOSOC council. The debate topics were regarding STIs and the MDGs as well as the role of MEDC's protectionism towards LEDC. I was flabbergasted and at a loss of words. Russia? Isn't that some cold country up north? And what is ECOSOC? Hahaha I had more questions than everyone else. My council was full of acronyms. Luckily I have a fellow MUN clubmate from SIS who is in ECOSOC too. As I left SIS, I turned my head towards my old school. Oh how I miss SIS! The halls of fun and mindless excitement, the gym of endless 'thuds' and 'bonks', the crowded cafeteria with overpriced yet memorable food... If only I could return!
But people have to move on, and I moved on to CIMP. It was a great two years in SIS, but CIMP would be equally as fun with an exciting Student Council...
and the Weekend came! I drafted my speech and made more stickers for you readers out there :)
